Where to find it
Go to Inventory → Items. Three tabs sit at the top of the page:
Tab | What it holds |
Inventory items | Products you buy and sell, and raw materials you use to make things. |
Composite items | Products you make from other items, with their bill of materials. |
Production orders | Each production run that turns raw materials into finished products. |
Inventory → Adjustments is where you correct stock counts and values.
How stock moves
What happens | Stock | In your books |
Opening stock when you add an item | Goes up | Inventory account goes up. |
Restock (a bill for the item) | Goes up | Inventory goes up, and you owe the vendor. |
Sale (an invoice for the item) | Goes down | Revenue is recorded, and the item's cost moves to Cost of goods sold. |
Production order | Raw materials go down, and finished goods go up | Cost moves from raw materials to the finished product. |
Adjustment | Up or down | The difference goes to the cost account you choose. |
The accounts behind each item
Each item uses three accounts, which Tyms fills in for you:
Revenue account: where its sales are recorded, e.g. Sales revenue.
Inventory account: where the value of the stock you hold sits, e.g. Inventory.
Cost of goods sold account: where its cost goes when you sell it.
Change them on the item if you report some products separately.
