Composite items and bills of materials

A composite item is a product you make from other items. Its bill of materials lists the raw materials and quantities that go into one unit. For example, one 1 lb bag of coffee takes 0.55 kg of green beans and one kraft bag.

Before you start

Add the raw materials first, as inventory items with Raw material set to Yes. See Add inventory items.

Create a composite item

  1. Go to Inventory → Items, open the Composite items tab, and click Create Composite Items → Create manually.

  2. Under Item details, enter the Item name, SKU, Unit and Selling price.

  3. Under Components, add each raw material and the quantity one unit needs.

  4. Check the Accounts: Revenue account, Cost of goods sold account and Tax.

  5. Optionally fill in Additional details: Reorder unit, Shelf life (days), Branch, Item categories and Tags.

  6. Click Create.
