Upload bank statements

Upload a statement and Adam reads every line, adds the transactions to that bank, and categorises them. CSV statements give the best results.

Before you start

  • File types: PDF, CSV, TXT, XLSX, XLS, PNG, JPEG, GIF or WEBP. Up to 10 files at a time, 10 MB each.

  • One month per file processes fastest. Keep spreadsheets under 500 rows.

  • CSV works best. Most PDFs read well, but a few can't be processed.

  • Uploads use credits. If your balance is 0, uploads pause until you add credits. See Plans and credits.

Upload a statement

  1. Go to Banking → Bank Accounts and click Upload statement on the bank's card. Or open the bank and choose the Bank statements tab.

  2. Pick the year the statement covers. Years with a 🔒 are before your plan's start. Click Activate year to add them with catch-up accounting.

  3. Drag your files into the box, or click Select up to 10 files.

  4. In Confirm bank statement, check the Bank account. Optionally add a Prompt to guide Adam, for example "Transfers to XXXX7710 are to our savings account".

  5. Click Upload.

Follow its progress

The file appears under Recent uploads with its bank and the period Adam found in it. Its Status moves through:

Status

Meaning

Pending

Waiting to start.

Processing

Adam is reading the lines. The progress shows, e.g. Extracting from text....

Processed (17/17)

Done. All 17 lines were added.

Failed

Couldn't be read. Use Retry, or upload it as CSV.

Statement processed

Only one statement uploads at a time. Wait for the current upload to finish before adding the next.

What happens next

Open the Bank transactions tab. The new lines are there, already categorised where Adam was confident. Your bank rules are applied first. See Review and categorise bank transactions.

Adam also records the statement's closing balance under Bank balances, so you can check your reconciliation straight away.

Tips

  • Uploading the same month twice? Tyms warns you when it finds existing transactions for that period. Delete the old upload first to avoid duplicates.

  • Delete or retry an upload: click ⋮ in the Actions column.
