Run payroll

A payroll journal records a month's salaries, taxes and pension in your books. Create it from your employees, check it, and post it.

Create a payroll journal

  1. Go to Payroll → Employees, tick the employees you're paying, and click Run payroll. Or go to Payroll → Payroll Journals and click Create Payroll Journals → Create manually.

  2. Under Payroll details, enter a Title, e.g. October 2026 Payroll.

  3. Set the Date to a day in the month you're paying for, not today. For example, on 9 November pick a date in October when paying October salaries.

  4. Check each employee's line: Basic, Housing, Transport, Other benefits, PAYE, Employee pension, Employer pension, Housing fund, Employee compensation and Net pay.

  5. Review the totals: Gross pay, Net pay and Total employer cost.

  6. Check the Accounts & classification. Tyms fills in the payroll expense and payable accounts for you.

  7. Click Save. The journal is saved as a Draft.

Post it to your books

Open the payroll journal and click Actions → Post payroll, then confirm. This records the payroll in your books: salaries, PAYE and pension become amounts you owe.

You can move a posted payroll back to a draft if nobody has been paid yet. This undoes the amounts recorded.
