Recurring journals

A recurring journal posts the same entry on a schedule, for example releasing one month of prepaid insurance, or monthly accruals and allocations.

Turn a journal into a recurring one

The quickest way is to start from a journal you've already made:

  1. Open the journal and click Actions → Convert to recurring.

  2. Check the Name. The line items are copied automatically.

  3. Choose how to Start as:

    • Draft: saved, not issued yet.

    • Active: issues on schedule.

    • Paused: kept, with no new issues.

  4. Set the Start date and an optional End date.

  5. Set the Frequency (Days, Weeks, Months or Year) and Every, e.g. every 1 month.

  6. Click Convert to recurring.

Example: release prepaid insurance

You paid $2,400 for a year of insurance and recorded it in Prepaid insurance. Each month, $200 becomes an expense:

Debit

$200

Prepaid insurance

Credit

$200

Schedule it monthly for 12 months and set the end date, so it stops when the prepayment runs out.
